Labor Thanksgiving Day is an annual holiday in Japan celebrated on 23rd November each year, unless that day falls on a Sunday, in which case the holiday is moved to Monday. This year, 23rd November falls on a Tuesday. Naturally, we don’t have a whole lot of holiday observations and since the Japanese power market didn’t liberalize until 2016, we don’t have an observance of Labor Thanksgiving Day on a Tuesday in our dataset. This case study analyzes how Labor Thanksgiving Day power demand patterns fluctuate in Tokyo and Chubu by day of week and gives a prediction for how demand may behave this this Tuesday.
